Although I initially discovered Tom & Lorenzo through their renowned Mad Men recaps – the “Mad Style” posts, some truly entertaining and well-informed costume commentary that further inform ones appreciation of the show – I have since depended on my “kindly gay uncles” practically daily for their cattiness, their bitchery, and their spot-on criticism of celebrity fashion.

They’re more than just opinionated, they’re brilliant writers with a keen eye. Many ladystars in Hollywood would benefit from listening to their advice or just hiring them as stylists. But then of course there wouldn’t be as many red carpet disasters to make fun of. I have learned much indeed about the elusive art of the WERQ under their tutelage, and I think their occasional reminders that style is really all about dressing your personality and being comfortable in your skin are, in my opinion, the standards to which the fashion industry should aspire. Plus, celebrities need to just get over themselves sometimes, and TLo are on the outside looking in like the rest of us peasants.

And while the Miss Universe National Costumes contest provides many internet writers with some pretty great ammo, nobody can capture the ridiculousness of this pageant better than Tom and Lorenzo. By providing tiny imaginary snippets for each and every contestant, they expose the pageant’s inherent mockery of native cultural stereotypes and women in general, all the while making you laugh your pants off. Just look at the dialogue playing out between some of the competitors. You could of course just go down a Miss Universe wormhole (last year “BAM, MOTHERFUCKERS! FUCKING URUGUAY, OKAY?” stole the show in my opinion), but don’t get distracted and start reading TLo’s critiques of celebrities. Their writing is so damn good you’ll be there for hours.

Snaps of respect, gay uncles. (Oh and like CONGRATS ON YOUR WEDDING!!)
